Remember the 2004 ‘The Notebook’ movie? Well it’s back! And it’s heading to Broadway this time!
The romantic drama movie was an adaption of author Nicholas Spark’s 1996 bestselling novel. The film became a ‘sleeper hit’, which is a term used in the entertainment industry to describe a film that becomes a big success and for a long period of time, despite little promotion. This is certainly the case for this film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. They stole everyone’s hearts!
Ingrid Michaelson just announced today that she has been writing the music for the Broadway show. The playwright and book is being handled by This Is Us supervising producer Bekah Brunstetter. Author Nicholas Sparks says he’s thrilled to be working with both of them to make The Notebook a reality on Broadway.
If you need a refresher on the movie, an elderly man living in a nursing home regularly reads a romantic story from his notebook to a fellow woman resident. The woman is suffering with dementia and memory loss. It is revealed much later in the movie that the woman had told her husband during the early stages of her illness to reread their journals to her to help her remember the past. The man reading the story from his notebook is actually her husband (although she doesn’t remember him) and the story he’s reading to her is actually about them. Watching this movie requires a box of tissue for inevitable tears…
