First grader Ryan reviews toys in front of a camera and then the video is uploaded to his YouTube channel for his followers to see. He has over 17 million followers and most of them are elementary school-aged children. He racks up millions of views on a regular basis. Ryan (and his parents of course) started the channel ‘Ryan ToysReview’ back in 2015.
Ryan was this year’s highest paid YouTuber: Forbes estimates that he earned $22 million and that was only through June 2018. According to Forbes, “all but $1 million of the $22 million total is generated by advertising shown before videos, with the remainder coming from sponsored posts.”
Ryan now has a toy and apparel collection at Walmart called Ryan’s World, which will increase his earnings even more. 15% of Ryan’s earnings are put into a bank account and he will not be able to access it until he is a legal adult. NBC interviewed Ryan recently, where he explained his success, “I’m entertaining and I’m funny”.
Who knew becoming a millionaire by playing with toys could be so simple!
