Aretha Franklin ‘Respect’ Biopic Now Has Director and Writer!

The biopic now has a director and writer, so things are moving along! Stage director Liesel Tommy is set to direct and Callie Khouri will write the script.

Jennifer Hudson was selected to play the Aretha Franklin role by the Queen of Soul herself back in January 2018.

Liesel Tommy was nominated for a Tony Award for directing Eclipsed, the 2016 Broadway production starring Lupita Nyong’o and she’ll also be directing Trevor Noah’s autobiography.

Callie Khouri penned Thelma & Louise (1991).

This biopic sure has a strong backbone!
